Look up, people!

Last Friday was the final day of Read Across America week,(aka Dr Suess's birthday week). That day's theme was 'Dress for your Future Career Day'. I'm still not 100% sure what I want to be when I grow up, so I looked to my left that morning and chose the tiara sitting there in my bathroom. Yea, don't judge I have a tiara!

I grabbed some pearls, straightened my tiara and was off to greet the day and some crazy elementary school kids. First stop was Starbucks because, well I was about to face elementary kids uncaffeinated, duh.

Since I am obviously used to wearing a tiara daily, I forgot and left it on when I ran into Starbucks. One lady looked up and got the biggest grin on her face. I realized and told her why I was wearing it. She told me that she assumed as she had just dropped her future surgeon and veterinarian at school herself!
The strangest, funniest, oddest...not sure what adjective should go here now is that no one else even noticed. They were all far too busy looking at their device of choice in their morning hands. They literally did not notice a woman in full pearls and a tiara at Starbucks at 7:15 in the morning.

I wish I could say that I am surprised, but I really am not. Look around almost anywhere and people are more tuned in to what's on that tiny little screen than what's going on around them. We all know that this is an issue, yet we continue to look down instead of looking up.

I have a vacation out of the country coming up and I had planned on buying a temporary international plan for my phone. After Friday I have decided that I really, really need to unplug for that week. I will not be buying the international plan, but will rely on those old-fashioned communication methods. (Well, if an occasional email check is now considered old-fashioned!)  I feel certain that even if I am not instagramming or Facebooking all the fun that it truly is happening. Sure I will post when returning, but for those glorious 7 days I will enjoy my friends and family as it was intended - face to face and using actual words! I'll let you know how it goes...
